How to run Codex on a Linux VM and control it remotely
Running Codex on a VM is useful when the repository, tools and long-running processes need to stay close to the code. The remote workflow has three parts: prepare the VM, install the connector and create a task.
1. Prepare the Linux user
Install Node.js 22 or later, install Codex CLI and complete the Codex login for the Linux user that will own the project. Keep the repository in a directory that user can read and, when authorized, write.
2. Install the account connector
Create a VM in the dashboard and run the account-specific installer command in the VM. Paste the one-time token when the installer asks for it. The installer detects Codex and asks for the project directory locally.

Open the task center, create a task for the VM and send a short instruction. WhatsApp and the web panel use the same task state, so you can start from the phone and inspect the history in the browser.
4. Choose permissions deliberately
Begin with read-only access. Enable workspace writes or full access only when the account owner understands what the task can change. Permissions can be updated from the VM controls and are applied to the connector.
